DITKA'S OLYMPIAN RECIPE: Meals, music and the IOC
The Olympic Evaluation Committee (or whatever it's called) showed up at Ditka's restaurant Tuesday night.
On the menu -- aside from the food -- was a performance by John Vincent, who sang as Frank Sinatra, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Dean Martin and Louis Armstrong, to the delight of the out-of-towners.
''The chairwoman [Nawal El Moutawakel] got onstage to sing to her husband in Morocco,'' Vincent told Quick Hits.
So if Chicago does land the 2016 Summer Games, Ditka's can take credit for the achievement?
''I wouldn't say that,'' Vincent said.
OK. Quick Hits will.
• • Something says the 2016 evaluators also might have seen the April issue of Niche Media's Michigan Avenue magazine during their visit.
Included was an observation from Mayor Daley: ''The spirit of the Olympic movement is great for young people because it teaches them about the training and discipline required to compete. Even if they don't make the teams, they can rededicate their lives to the art of sport, discipline and physical fitness.''
