(Crain's) — Seems it’s two steps forward, one step back for the launch of Michigan Ave., the upscale glossy magazine that’s sure to have CS (formerly Chicago Social) quaking in its Uggs.
PR executive and Sun-Times columnist Susanna Homan has been hired as executive editor of the publication, owned by Niche Media LLC.
A Michigan Avenue office has been secured. Even a welcome-to-Chicago party is in the works for Niche CEO Jason Binn.
But Michigan Ave.’s planned April debut has been postponed until September — its second delay. The publication initially was set to publish last October.
thought it would be best to save time and energy when we could really focus on it,” Mr. Binn says, referring to the launch.
Those transactions included a merger with Miami-based Ocean Drive, the launch of a Niche-published magazine of Donald Trump’s and a project with MGM City Center, the luxury condominium project in Las Vegas.
Interestingly, Mr. Binn’s Niche Media partner is Brian Greenspun, who was tapped recently by Sam Zell to serve as a Chicago Tribune director.
In spite of Michigan Ave.’s start-up delay, behind-the-scenes work has continued on behalf of the Chicago mag, including the hiring of Ms. Homan, who will oversee editorial content — the first publication is set to be a hefty 400 pages.
And the magazine has secured offices in the Equitable Building — though Mr. Binn says they’re in the hunt for something bigger.
