Just Another Night In Chicago With Super Chef Rick Bayless & Top Model Joanna Krupa
Wednesday night I headed to the Michigan Avenue magazine party celebrating top model and former Dancing With The Stars contestant Joanna Krupa, who was born in Warsaw but raised in Chicago. Fashionable guests of all ages gathered at River North eatery Epic to drink specialty Ketel cocktails, dine on hors d'ouevres, enjoy a live performance by dancers from the Arthur Murray Dance studio and gamble with Krupa at mock Horseshoe Casino tables. After a couple cocktails and some people watching, my crew was hungry for more than just the tasty bites passed at Epic, so we walked down the block to the new-ish Rick Bayless eatery Xoco. Not surprisingly, the hotter-than-a-jalapeno Mexican spot was packed, even at 9:30 on a Wednesday night. We didn't mind the wait, though, because we got to meet the man himself, culinary god and Top Chef master Rick Bayless.
The March issue of Michigan Avenue magazine floated on screens throughout the venue.
I had the Gunthorp Chicken torta (spicy and complex), and my friends had the Pepito torta (tender short rib smothered with Jack cheese and caramelized onion) and the Jamon torta (prosciutto and cheddar with a surprising hint of sweetness). We all shared some guacamole and chips to start and chocolate-studded churros to finish.Check out a few pics from both the Michigan Avenue party.
